The first free PlayStation Plus game of September is one we've been waiting for

This product has excited people since its announcement in June 2022

If you haven’t heard of the next title coming to PlayStation Plus in September, buckle up because it looks like it’s going to be an absolute blast.

As announced last night on the PlayStation Blog, The brave squire will be added to the PlayStation Plus catalog on September 17, the same day the game is released worldwide.

TimeSplitters is back on PlayStation consoles!

The action-adventure game is being developed by All Possible Futures and is set to be published by Devolver Digital. There’s also a nice little trailer if you want to take a look beforehand.

However, non-PlayStation owners don’t have to worry, as the game will be released on the same date for Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PCs alongside PlayStation 5.

Personally, I’ve been excited about this game ever since I read Chris Tapsell’s article about it for Eurogamer back in June.

Chris called it one of the “most beautiful” experiences he’s had “with video games in a while.”

He further described it as a “Zelda-like adventure from above” where you “fight little enemy blobs with your sword or use a neat little throw and recall system that looks like a manually summoned boomerang.”

The Zelda comparison seems very fitting here, as some of the game mechanics in The Plucky Squire look very similar to The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

To be clear: This is a huge compliment and not an accusation of lack of originality. We need more games like A connection between the worldsno less.

James Turner, founder of developer All Possible Futures, also has some experience with Nintendo.

Turner worked as an art designer on several Pokemon Title and the platformer HarmoKnight at Game Freak before founding All Possible Futures in 2019 with Jonathan Biddle, former design director of Curve Digital.
