An inclusion center in northern Utah is in the sights again by vandals, but this time the perpetrators were caught on camera.
On August 9, two masked individuals cut and stole Pride flags outside Logan’s Pride House just minutes after a large group left the building. Dorothy Wallis, president of the nonprofit, said people were still in the building when the flags were stolen and left shortly afterward, witnessing the aftermath of the crime.
“We knew it was a knife the last time, but we didn’t have any video footage,” Wallis said. “It was really disturbing to hear the flags being cut up rather than just taken away.”
The next morning, the center hung the flags again – just like last time.
“We have literally hundreds of flags, so it’s not worth your time,” Wallis said. “We can put them up, and when hundreds are gone, we can get more.”
The theft follows a spike in other Pride flag thefts in the area. Lt. Brad Franke of the Logan City Police Department said his department has received numerous similar reports in recent weeks, including from Logan Pride.
He said there was currently no indication as to who was responsible for last week’s theft.
“Stop it, grow up and respect other people’s property,” Franke said. “Sometimes people just don’t believe that something they do in two minutes has such a lasting emotional impact on other people. This flag is not a flag for other people. It represents them as a person.”
