Man convicted of involvement in Wayne County stabbing

RICHMOND, Ind. – A man who stabbed a rural Hagerstown resident in the chest has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Julian Nicholas McCord, now 30, was charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, a Level 3 felony that carries a maximum sentence of 16 years.

Wayne County District Court Judge April Drake imposed a nine-year prison sentence with five years suspended on Aug. 12. McCord, who already has more than 15 months in the Wayne County Jail, will be on five years’ probation after his release.

The stabbing occurred in the victim’s home in April 2023. The man said McCord suddenly attacked him while they were discussing business with a mutual acquaintance.

After the stabbing, the victim ran to a neighbor’s house to get help.

Officials said McCord was found with a “severe cut on his left wrist and had lost a lot of blood.”

McCord – listed in court documents with addresses in Winchester and Hagerstown – told investigators he injured his wrist while trying to stab the other man.

In April 2023, he was also charged with attempted assault with a deadly weapon, assault and hit-and-run.

In this case, he was accused of attempting to run over a pedestrian with a car.

As part of a plea agreement in the stabbing case, charges in the other case were dropped.
