Grand Blanc Police launch app for residents

GRAND BLANC, Michigan (WNEM) – Grand Blanc introduces a modern way to communicate with the local police.

Using Grand Blanc’s new app, residents can ask the police to check on their homes while they are on vacation and provide tips anonymously.

Police Chief Brian Lipe said the app could also be used as an alert system in the event of road closures, water main bursts or major police operations.

“Let’s say there’s a shooting at our school. What better way to get the word out than, ‘Hey, don’t come to school. We’re going to set up a reunification meeting point here at this location. Meet here to find your child,'” he said.

It is part of the city’s five-year plan, and initial measures are already being taken as part of its new efforts to improve communication with citizens.

“I received a report this afternoon about a building code compliance issue in one of our residential areas. I will forward this to our building inspector who will then review the issue when he has time,” Lipe said.

Residents should not use the app to seek immediate police assistance. Always call 911 in an emergency.
