10 Halfway to eternity

Giving the destroyed monsters of Yuma another chance to shine

Trap cards may not have been the main focus of Yuma’s deck, as his ace monster Utopia already offered him amazing protection. Nevertheless, the defensive tools he had in the Yu-Gi-Oh! series was impressively powerful. One example is the unique Halfway to Forever, a trap card that Use the graveyard to give the user more benefits.

This card can be activated after two or more monsters are destroyed in the same turn. Halfway to Forever would use two of these monsters as material to Special Summon an XYZ monster. Thanks to this card, Yuma could use cards that would otherwise have become irrelevant to the game. Still, its activation conditions rely heavily on the opponent destroying monsters, which is why it can sometimes be considered a dead card in the hand.

The most famous and powerful Duelist in all of Yu-Gi-Oh! is undoubtedly Yugi Muto. Here are some Trap Cards he always uses in difficult times.

9 Double or nothing!

A way to turn Utopia into a power plant

To use his Utopia’s defensive abilities as a powerful attack, Yuma relies on the power of his magic card “Double or Nothing!” Whenever a monster on the user’s side blocks his attack, This card would double the attack of the target creature and give them another chance in the fight.

By using Double or Nothing after using Utopia’s effect to block an attack, Yuma can increase his monster’s power. This increase in combat power is often enough to destroy any opposing creature that stands in his way. Thanks to this card, Yuma was able to defeat Astral in the final duel. However, the fact that it requires an attack block to activate it limits its versatility.

8 Goblinbergh

Amazing Monster makes XYZ summons easier

Yuma’s Deck was designed to quickly Summon powerful XYZ monsters to the field. Goblindbergh is a creature that would make this goal much easier, as it would have a perfect effect for the protagonist’s strategy. If this monster were Normal Summoned to the field, Yuma could immediately Summon a Level 4 or lower creature from his hand.

Goblindbergh would then go into Defense Position, which may seem negative since the card has no defensive abilities. However, the value of this monster is based on its ability to Give Yuma a Level 4 XYZ Summon with just one card. Goblindbergh is still used to this day in decks that require large amounts of materials to summon powerful XYZ monsters.

7 Kagetokage

The easiest way to summon a Level 4 monster in Yuma’s Deck

Kagetokage was created to give its user access to their XYZ monster. Yuma has won with this card more than once. Behind its unassuming appearance, this creature hides a powerful and extremely useful ability. When its user summons a Level 4 monster, Kagetokage can be summoned to the field immediately afterward.

Thanks to this map Yuma would have instant access to a Rank 4 XYZ monsterwhich significantly increased his advantage at the beginning of the game. Although Kagetokage was not overly powerful, he was strong enough to become a key element of the protagonist’s strategy. In real competitive play, this monster was considered one of the best during the Zexal era.

6 Rank advancement magic Astral Force

The power of Yuma’s monsters is increased once per round

Although Yuma had no shortage of useful allies to facilitate his XYZ Summons, it was always important to him to have other ways to access his high-level creatures. Similar to other Rank Up Spells, this card allowed the user Summon a creature 1 or 2 ranks higher than another one already on the field. The targeted monster would become the material for the newly summoned creature.

What makes Astral Force better than other Rank-Up cards is its ability to add itself to the user’s hand by not drawing a card from the deck at the start of the turn. Thanks to this special effect Yuma could use this card as often as he wantedand summon more powerful monsters each time.

5 Number C39: Victory of Utopia Ray

A monster with incredibly strong attack power

Whenever Yuma tried to win a game as quickly and effectively as possible, he resorted to the impressive attack power of his Utopia Ray Victory. This card is one of the strongest in the protagonist’s deck, even if it doesn’t seem so at first glance. Although he only has 2800 attack points, which may not seem impressive, Ray Victory could grow into a much more powerful being.

By cutting off one of its XYZ materials whenever it was involved in a fight, This version of Utopia was able to negate the effects of the monster she was fighting. It would also increase his attack points by the strength of his opponent’s monster. This means that Ray Victory could destroy any monster that would have given Yuma trouble during a duel.

Once per turn, Big Eye could detach one of his materials to target a creature on the opponent’s side of the field. If this was not interrupted, the target card changed hands for the rest of the turn, effectively becoming a member of Yuma’s team.

The only downside to this effect was that Big Eye could not attack during the turn when it used this ability. Even with this limitation Number 11 was once one of the most powerful XYZ monsters available to competitive players for use in TCG tournaments.
