Repair work continues on the sinkhole on Halton Hills Main Street

Sinkhole on South Sheridan Way in Mississauga – Alvin Tedjo

A main road in Halton Hills has been closed since Wednesday (August 14) due to a sinkhole and will remain closed to traffic on Friday evening.

In Halton Region, work is still underway to repair the sinkhole that caused the closure of Eighth Line North between 5 Side Road and Steeles Avenue.

The road is frequently used by commuters in Brampton, Mississauga and Milton.

“Repair crews continue to work diligently to repair the depression on the Eighth Line approximately 50 metres south of 5 Side Road,” Holly Einboden, communications specialist for Halton Regional, told INhalton.com. “The Eighth Line will remain closed to all traffic until repairs are completed.”

Staff are continuing to investigate the cause of the depression, Einboden added.

Drivers who normally use this road should seek an alternative route that includes Winston Churchill Boulevard, Ninth Line or Trafalgar Road.
