CADIZ – WVU Medicine’s Harrison Community Hospital and Barnesville Hospital each received a grant from the South Central Power Foundation to help upgrade their equipment.

Barnesville Hospital has purchased two blanket warmers. Warm blankets provide a sense of comfort to patients receiving IVs, undergoing surgery, or in the ward.

In addition, Harrison Community Hospital has purchased two Puro ultraviolet disinfection lamps for the operating room. The Puro UV disinfection lamps disinfect the operating room and recovery area and provide overhead disinfection. They emit a broad-spectrum UV light to eliminate up to 99.9 percent of bacteria, viruses and fungi in the rooms.

“The equipment we were able to purchase thanks to the grants from the South Central Foundation has been extremely useful for our patients,” said Susan Redish, nursing director. “The blanket warmers help patients feel comfortable during treatment, and the UV lamps provide additional disinfection in our operating room and recovery area.”

“The South Central Power Co. Foundation is excited about the opportunity to contribute to improving patient comfort and care in Eastern Ohio,” said Don Jones, chairman of the foundation’s board. “We are proud to partner with WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital and Harrison Community Hospital to secure funding for these devices on behalf of South Central Power members who contribute to our foundation each month with their electric bill.”
