Reid and Card are top athletes for the U20 World Championship | Sport

Paris Olympic representative Alana Reid and Wolmer’s Boys sprinter Gary Card have been named by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) in a squad of 43 athletes for the U20 World Championships to be held in Lima, Peru, from August 27 to 31.

Reid, who finished third in the 200 metres in Cali, Colombia two years ago, was a member of the women’s 4×100 metres team that finished fifth in Paris. She will compete in the 100 metres in Peru, an event in which she is the world’s leading under-20 runner with her season’s best of 11.09 seconds.

Other notable members of the women’s team include Kerrica Hill and Theiana-Lee Terrelonge of Edwin Allen High School. Hill is the defending champion in the 100-meter hurdles. Her time is the world best at 12.85 seconds.

Terrelonge, who has had a fantastic season, will compete in the 100m, where she ranks third among the U20 athletes with her season and personal best of 11.13.

Skyler Franklin, who won the girls’ under-20 400m at the national championships and is the fifth fastest runner in the world at that level with a best time of 51.01 seconds, will not be competing at the championships. She was unable to submit her paperwork in time after switching her allegiance from the United States to Jamaica.

Card will be the top-ranked Jamaican male at the meet, where he is third in the 200m with his best time of 20.50 seconds. He is fourth in the 100m with his season and personal best of 10.07.

U20 world record holder and defending triple jump champion Jaydon Hibbert will not defend his title at the championships. Hibbert withdrew after suffering a thigh injury at the Olympic Games, where he finished fourth in Paris.

Jamaica will be hoping to surpass its performance from two years ago, when the country won a record 16 medals, its best ever haul at these championships.
