Thinking about joining Costco? Or have you shared your membership card with your parents or friends? Now that Costco is starting to crack down on membership sharing (in the coming months, stores will start scanning cards at the entrance and requiring the member’s presence), it’s a good time to invest in your own. And with this deal, when you purchase a one-year Gold Star membership through Stack Social, you’ll get a $20 gift card completely free. That essentially reduces your membership cost to just $40 per year. (If you prefer the top-of-the-line Costco Executive Gold Star membership, you can now also get a $40 gift card with your membership.)
Costco also recently announced that it will increase the price of its Gold Star membership from $60 to $65 for the year in September, so now is a good time to save some money beforehand.
This offer is only valid for new Costco members or those whose memberships have been expired for more than 18 months. It is also only available to customers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. While you can purchase a maximum of two memberships, you can only purchase one per household – so you can keep one and give the other as a gift. (You can, however, get an additional card for a member of the same household who is over 18.)
I purchased this Costco deal myself in November 2023 and can vouch for it. The redemption process was simple: you purchase and redeem the membership online and pick up your card at any Costco warehouse at the customer service desk (just be prepared to have a photo taken for your card, which was not the case for me). To receive your $20 gift card, enter your email address when redeeming. My gift card arrived via email within two weeks and I had the option to scan it on my phone or print it to redeem in-store or online.

Costco members can find everything from groceries to household supplies and electronics to a pharmacy and more. Members also get discounts on Costco services, including the Costco Gas Station and Costco Tire Center, as well as others that you can combine with auto and home insurance, pet insurance and identity protection. Costco also offers travel deals, including resort packages and cruises.
