At an event in Colombia yesterday, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, showcased a new handbag trend that fashion people in New York and Monaco have marked as a key buy for the new season.
Eschewing the brown and black handbags that have long been saturated in the market, Markle instead went for a bright and fresh white handbag to complete her elegant look. She chose Loro Piana’s Loom Bag L32 (£3,775). The top-handle style features a slightly casual silhouette, while the fresh white colorway provided a striking contrast to her navy ensemble.

This trend is a new classic on the fashion scene and I’ve slowly become accustomed to it over the past few months. I’ve pushed it aside for fear of looking “cheap” – which probably reflects my own insecurity about keeping a white leather piece clean – but I’ve recently realized that this trend can look supremely elegant when styled carefully. Markle’s combination of navy and white is a far cry from the looks we wore them with in the 2000s when white bags were at their last peak, and looks so classy. I’ve also seen white bags worn with other light, neutral shades in an undeniably chic way.
After spotting this trend on the streets of New York, Monaco and now Colombia, we are convinced that white bags will become a staple of the new season this year.
