The upcoming middleweight title fight at UFC 305 between Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya has generated a lot of excitement. After surprisingly losing his belt to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 in 2023, “The Last Stylebender” announced he would be taking a break from the sport. Tensions between him and Du Plessis have already reached a boiling point, stemming from “Stillknock’s” previous comments about what it means to be an “African champion” in the UFC.

However, there is another challenge that Adesanya will have to overcome in this fight: the infamous “Drake Curse.” The Canadian rapper is known for a bizarre phenomenon that occurs when he bets on sporting events and his supported team/athlete ends up not living up to expectations. But what about the “Drake Curse”? This phenomenon has become almost legendary in the online community. The Canadian music star, who is known for betting on sports such as UFC, basketball and more, has had a lot of bad luck and many of his picks have lost, giving the “curse” even more weight in the minds of fans. According to a report on “XXLMag.com”, Drake has already lost an estimated $7 million because his picks didn’t pan out!

When Tyson Fury faced Oleksandr Usyk in early February this year, Drake had bet $565,000 on “The Gypsy King” to defend his undisputed heavyweight title. Usyk was able to secure a split decision victory and Fury became another victim of the “curse.”

But Israel Adesanya’s rival Alex Pereira appeared to have broken the “curse” at UFC 300 when he defended his light heavyweight title against Jamahal Hill. Drake reportedly bet $675,000 on Pereira’s victory, and the Brazilian star ensured the rapper won a spectacular $1,194,750 for his wager.

The middleweight title fight at UFC 305 has become more than just a fight for the belt. At the pre-fight press conference, Du Plessis and Adesanya got into a heated exchange as the former champion laid out his post-fight plans, expressing a desire to return to Nigeria, then visit South Africa and finally return to New Zealand. The remark apparently struck a nerve, because Adesanya responded with the words: “What the hell are you talking about? Shut up, you don’t know my story, you have no idea who the hell I am.” But the emotional rollercoaster didn’t end there. When asked another question, Adesanya burst into tears. “I do this for my family,” he confessed with a shaky voice as he pointed to his parents in the crowd. ‘The Last Stylebender’ then made it clear that his tears did not mean weakness and warned his opponent that “…I’m going to destroy your dreams, bitch, I’m going to fucking destroy your dreams.”

Will Adesanya’s fierce determination be enough to defy all odds and the “Drake curse” that hangs over him? Or will Dricus Du Plessis, riding the wave of his own confidence, use this psychological warfare to secure his first middleweight title defense? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
