Doubles are the focus of the Bristol Open on Saturday

Rain was the eventual winner of the Carvana Professional Pickleball Association IHG Hotels and Resorts Bristol Open at the Bristol Sportsplex on Friday.

A day dedicated to mixed doubles ended prematurely when torrential rain late Friday afternoon forced the semifinals to be postponed until Saturday.

Four groups of two will return to the court at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday to complete the mixed doubles portion of the event, with the winners advancing to the final on Sunday.

Michael Johns and 17-year-old Anna Leigh Waters are not only two of the best singles players in the world, but also the top-ranked mixed doubles team in the sport. The duo won three matches in straight sets on Friday and will now face No. 4 Dekel Bar and Tina Pisnik in a semifinal match.

In the other semifinal, the mixed doubles team of No. 2 Anna Bright and Christian Alshon will face No. 14 Jackie Kawamoto and Jaume Martinez Vich.

The winners will meet in the final of the mixed doubles championship on Sunday.

This is followed by a full day of doubles competitions.

JW Johnson and Dylan Frazier are the top-ranked men’s team, followed by Johns and his brother Collin. The top-ranked women’s teams include No. 1 Catherine Parenteau and Waters and the second-ranked duo of Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher.

Saturday’s action will be broadcast on pickleballtv from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a replay of the activities on FS1 at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, championship and consolation matches will be held to determine the bronze medal winner in men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Sunday games will be broadcast on FOX from 1-3 p.m. The action will also be shown on pickleballtv from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3-6 p.m.
