SHEBOYGAN – Homeowners were desperately trying to keep their basements dry after heavy rains caused sudden flooding in the Sheboygan area on Friday. Some residential neighborhoods, including 10th Place and Florida Ave., were inundated, TMJ4 News reported.
According to Storm Team 4cast, irregular rain showers were expected on Saturday.
Homeowners should check their basements even if they don’t normally drain, advises Chris Mancuso of Accurate Basement Repair.
“Go downstairs and take a good look around, even if you haven’t had water before,” Mancuso told WTMJ Radio on Saturday. “If water has gotten in, you should clean it up and let it dry.”
Even a little water can cause big problems, he said.
“Even if you have a small leak in the corner, it can cause mold problems,” Mancuso explained. “You should even check behind dressers and in corners. If there is a small leak, pull back the carpet, let it dry and put a fan on it.”
The city of Sheboygan also urged residents on Friday not to drive through standing water. More than 3 inches of rain fell in some areas of Sheboygan County.
