Cash App pays US citizens ,500 in  million data theft settlement – ​​but deadline is just hours away

Americans can expect to receive up to $2,500 in compensation in the event of a massive data theft.

Cash App has agreed to settle a $15 million class action lawsuit after consumers’ personal information was compromised.

Eligible customers are those whose account and personal data were obtained without consent or who were victims of fraudulent withdrawals or transfers between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024.

Cash App reportedly failed to protect consumers from two data breaches in 2022 and 2023.

The 2022 breach reportedly involved an employee’s unauthorized access to Cash App Investing accounts.

According to the class action lawsuit, the 2023 data theft involved unauthorized access by a third party using reused phone numbers.

Cash App is designed to allow users to exchange money, pay merchants, and invest.

The company has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to pay $15 million to settle the data breach class action lawsuit.

Eligible recipients may receive up to $2,500 for documented losses related to the data breaches.

These include loan costs, bank fees, travel expenses and up to three hours of downtime, which will be compensated at a rate of $25 per hour, according to the agreement.

If class members provide sufficient evidence of their experiences with fraudulent transactions resulting from the data breaches, they may be able to receive additional compensation for those losses.

To receive the settlement money, eligible recipients must submit a valid claim form by November 18, 2024.

The deadline for exclusion and objection ends on November 1, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Americans are cashing in after Lenscrafters agreed to a $39 million settlement.

The settlement provides for direct payments to consumers who claim to have been victims of misleading advertising.

The lawsuit alleged that LensCrafters made misleading statements about the AccuFit Digital System.

What is a class action settlement agreement?

Class action lawsuits provide an opportunity for groups of people or “classes” to join together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or more individuals who allege that a corporation or other entity has wronged a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have complaints similar to those of the plaintiffs.

Companies often settle class action lawsuits by offering payments to members of the class, who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.

These settlement agreements often include statements from the defendant denying any wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class action lawsuits to avoid the cost of further litigation.

Environmental pollution, discrimination or misleading advertising are just a few examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit against a company.

According to LensCrafters, the accuracy of its system is “accurate to one-tenth of a millimeter” – five times more accurate than other systems.

However, the plaintiffs argued that the retailer never updated its manufacturing process to produce glasses with a 0.1-millimeter specification.

The company denied these allegations but agreed to a multi-million dollar settlement to resolve the lawsuit.

The final approval hearing took place on February 26, but the court has not yet issued a final approval order.

According to the settlement agency’s website, consumers only have 30 days to file a claim after final approval.

Eligible customers should have received an email or mailed notification from Kroll Settlement Administration LLC.

The emails contained the subject “Ariza v. Luxottica Retail.”

EssilorLuxottica is an eyeglass lens manufacturing company with an extensive portfolio of eyewear brands sold at LensCrafters.

Suitable candidates include:

  • Residents of the USA
  • Bought prescription glasses after getting them fitted with AccuFit
  • Purchased between September 5, 2013 and September 20, 2023

To be eligible for the compensation amount, recipients must provide receipts showing which glasses they purchased, when and where the purchase took place.

Bank of America customers could also receive checks from a $21 million settlement.

In addition, Americans can receive a one-time payment of $4,500 as part of a data breach compensation package.
