At a performance on HyeriOn ‘s YouTube channel on August 16, Somi detailed the challenges she faced in maintaining her signature bleached hair. Hyeri, who noticed Somi’s constantly bleached hair, asked how she manages her scalp health despite the frequent chemical treatments.

Somi explained that she usually does her beauty routines at home, skipping visits to the dermatologist and relying on DIY methods for skincare. However, she admitted that during the promotions for her song FAST FORWARDher hair has taken a toll.

Due to the intensive bleaching, coloring and styling during this time, her hair broke off and she had a noticeable bald spot on the back of her head.

Reflecting on the experience, Somi confessed that the bald spot was so bad that she felt incredibly depressed. She mentioned that she had never been so depressed before and that it was a huge shock to her.

Do you know what happened before? I had a bald spot on the back of my head. It was unbelievable – I was more depressed than I had ever been.

Somi also shared that seeing her friends, who are also idols, with shorter hair was never a big deal for her until she experienced it herself. She realized how hard it was to have her hair cut so short that she couldn’t even move naturally while walking.

To cope with the hair loss, Somi got hair extensions and started taking better care of her scalp. She also started taking vitamins more regularly, which she hadn’t done before.

It felt like I was putting on a wig that people with hair loss wear. I looked into it and had it done. Now I’m very diligent about taking care of my scalp. I wasn’t someone who took vitamins regularly, but after that incident I realized I needed to. I’m feeling a little better now.

Thankfully, Somi’s hair has mostly recovered now, but she stressed that the bald spot was much worse than anyone could have imagined, even joking that her hairdresser kept delaying the time when her hair would grow back completely.
