Denver’s Smoky Drinks Festival, Fizz Fight, Unicorn World and Golden Fine Arts Festival

The wide world of unicorns

Saturday Sunday. Interactive experiences for all ages are often hard to find outside of museums and parks, but this weekend in Colorado Springs offers something for the whole family—assuming your family loves unicorns. Unicorn World takes over the Colorado Springs Event Center on Saturday, August 10, and Sunday, August 11, featuring a “magical forest and animatronic unicorns,” organizers wrote, as well as an arts and crafts area, a story time and “colorful, life-sized, moving and neighing unicorns” and, of course, plenty of things to buy.

Also featured this year are bubble houses, a wishing wall and “the world’s largest unicorn vending machine” (OK, sure?). Tickets: $41 for adults and children; free for children under 2. Note: Tickets are not sold at the event and are available in advance only. 3960 Palmer Park Blvd. in Colorado Springs. For more information, visit theunicornworld.com. — John Wenzel

Catch smoke

Saturday. Smoke flavors are divisive. For some, eating and drinking charred food or beverages is like licking a campfire. For others, the experience represents an untamed, yet comforting, connection to the human need to stay warm. The point? If you love smoky flavors—or are just curious—try the very first Smoke-proof on Saturday, August 10, at Mythmaker Brewing in Fort Collins.

The event brings together a rare collection of 13 beers, all brewed with smoked malt, from nine Colorado breweries, including Forbidden Brewing & Blending, Zwei Brewing, Timnath Beerwerks, Our Mutual Friend Brewing And Bierstadt Warehouse. Tickets are $15 and include your first 10-ounce pour and a souvenir glass. Samples in various sizes are available for purchase afterward. The fest runs from noon to 7 p.m. at Mythmaker, 1035 S. Taft Hill Road in Fort Collins. For tickets and more information, visit facebook.com/mythmakerbrewing. — Jonathan Shikes
