Ohio State Football names four captains for 2024 season

Seniors Cody Simon, Emeka Egbuka, TreVeyon Henderson and Jack Sawyer were voted captains by their Ohio State teammates this season.

“The good news is we have a great group of leaders,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said in a statement. “Just because you’re not a captain doesn’t mean you’re not a leader. You’re still a leader. Leadership is something you have to earn, and many of you have earned leadership. There are a lot of captains on this team. The players have done a great job of tuning in.”

Egbuka is the leader of a wide receiver unit that is expected to return to elite status despite the loss of Marvin Harrison Jr. Egbuka has been touted as a potential future captain since his arrival three years ago due to his work ethic and maturity. In his career, he has caught 124 passes for 1,857 yards and scored 14 touchdowns.

Henderson is sharing the running back position this season with Quinshon Judkins, who transferred from Mississippi. The two are expected to form the best running duo in the country. Henderson has rushed for 2,745 yards and scored 37 touchdowns in his career.

Sawyer, a defensive end from Pickerington, flourished in the second half of last season and is expected to lay the foundation for what is expected to be a top-notch defense, along with JT Tuimoloau and a talented defensive line.

Last year, Sawyer had 48 tackles and led all OSU linemen with 24 solo stops. He also led the Buckeyes with 10 tackles-for-loss and 6.5 quarterback sacks.

All four captains were OSU Scholar-Athletes, which requires a grade point average of at least 3.0.
