Highlights of the fight between Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya

The UFC is Down Under this weekend.

UFC 305 pits fighters against each other on Saturday night at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia – at least that’s when Americans will be watching. The actual fighting begins on Sunday morning on the ground in Western Australia.

There are plenty of Australians on this card and an exciting main event: Middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis defends his title for the first time against former champion Israel Adesanya, who will have the crowd behind him. There is no shortage of hostility in this duel.

Casey O’Neill vs. Luana Santos Result

The Australians are on a roll now. Casey O’Neill has given the hometown fighters their third straight win, taking a unanimous decision victory of 30-27, 30-27, 30-26 over Luana Santos in the women’s flyweight division. O’Neill was in control throughout and might have forced a submission fight in the final round had time not expired.

O’Neill’s win puts her back on track. After a 9-0 start to her professional MMA career, O’Neill lost both fights in 2023.

Result Jack Jenkins vs. Herbert Burns

We have another stoppage! Jack Jenkins defeated Herbert Burns by TKO at 0:48 of the third round.

When this featherweight fight took place standing up, Jenkins dominated. He battered Burns and repeatedly landed painful body shots. Burns only survived by trying to take him down, a well he often drew from.

In the end, it was a kick that paved the way for Jenkins’ victory. The Australian’s kick to Burns’ leg injured the Brazilian, who soon collapsed to the mat under Jenkins’ attack. After some ground fighting, Jenkins backed away to let Burns get up. Burns could no longer get up. The fight was over.

Result Tom Nolan vs. Alex Reyes

We have our first Australian winner of the night!

Tom Nolan was the odds-on favorite for this lightweight bout against Alex Reyes, but for the first time in his UFC career, one of his fights went the distance. However, Nolan controlled proceedings and secured a unanimous decision victory (30-27, 30-27, 29-28). After a rocky start that included an illegal knee strike in the first round, Nolan took the lead in the second round. In the third round, he seemed close to securing a submission victory, but Reyes hung on.

Song Kenan vs. Ricky Glenn Result

Song Kenan’s punching power was on full display in his unanimous decision victory over Ricky Glenn (30-27, 30-26, 29-28). Perhaps the only surprising thing about this welterweight fight is that it went the full distance, and that goes to Glenn.

Glenn actually got off to a good start, but Song soon took control and attacked the American with rapid volleys of punches. Glenn appeared to stagger several times and his face was a bruised mess. There was also a fairly large hematoma forming on the right side of his head.

Result Stewart Nicoll vs. Jesus Aguilar

Being strangled at 6:45 am must be quite an experience.

Jesus Aguilar knocked down Stewart Nicoll in the first round with a skillful guillotine choke, ending the fight after 2 minutes and 39 seconds. The only blemish on Aguilar’s victory over the Australian in the short but eventful flyweight fight: he missed weight by 1.5 pounds.

UFC 305 begins

Stewart Nicoll and Jesus Aguilar are in the ring at the RAC Arena! The crowd will probably fill up as these preliminary fights progress. After all, it is not quite 7 a.m. there yet.
