When Kamala Harris replaced President Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket last month, it prompted the Democratic Party to act. The party used an online roll call vote to officially nominate Harris and her vice presidential candidate, Tim Walz. Political parties typically use party conventions to officially select candidates.
Since that has already happened, this DNC is more about “speeches and endorsement of the party platform,” according to the New York Times. However, Harris has not yet formally accepted the nomination; she will do so at the DNC.

The event is not open to the general public. Only accredited delegates, media and guests can attend, the DNC said. Viewers can watch the DNC on cable and network television channels and online streaming platforms. The official livestream will be available on the DNC website at chicago2024.com.

Who will speak at the DNC?
According to USA TODAY, the DNC will feature at least three presidents. The DNC’s speaking schedule is subject to change, and a full list of speakers will be released at a later date. Among those expected to speak, USAT reports, is Jason Carter, the grandson of former President Jimmy Carter.

Will there be protests at the DNC?
Probably yes. Larger protests are likely to take place on the first and last days of the Democratic National Convention, the New York Times reported. They will focus primarily on opposition to Israel’s war in Gaza.
