Finally, industry is back for episode three, and the first episode already tells us that we’re in for another rollercoaster of season 2. The show is bigger, louder, and probably more scandalous in season three, with new faces at Pierpoint looking to make an impression. Harper, Yasmin, and Robert are struggling to navigate their new reality, and unfortunately, Robert just experienced a major tragedy. After the bombshell season 2 finale, we know Harper is no longer at Pierpoint, but that doesn’t mean she’s far from the business.

industry Season 3 continues tonight with episode 2 on HBO, titled “Smoke and Mirrors.” Another central plot point this time around is a green energy company called Lumi, which goes public at the end of the season 3 premiere. Kit Harington joins the show as Lumi CEO Sir Henry Muck, who has taken a liking to Yasmin. Things will no doubt continue to heat up in industry. Don’t miss the new episode in a few hours!

Indya Lewis as Venetia in “Industry”, Season 3, Episode 2

We jump forward a little from the events of season 2 as season 3 begins. All of our main players are in different places: Harper is now working for Anna Gearing’s company FutureDawn, Yasmin is back on the trading floor at Pierpoint, and Robert, also still at Pierpoint, is working on Lumin’s IPO strategy.

As for their personal lives, Yasmin is dealing with the public attention after her father is accused of embezzlement and disappears, and her photos are all over the tabloids. Robert has started a romantic relationship with Venetia, although he is still sleeping with Nicole, and Harper has a new boyfriend who we don’t know much about yet.

Eric has been promoted to partner at Pierpoint, and Adler tells him he needs to fire someone from his team, a decision he vacillates on throughout the episode. He’s not sure about Yasmin, but Kenny, who we learn took Eric in when his wife left him, vouches for her. After an unexpected night of Yasmin and Eric doing cocaine together, Eric seems to be on her side.

When Robert wakes up next to Nicole after spending the night with her, he is horrified to find her dead, with dried blood coming from her nose. Clearly shaken, he shows up at Pierpoint on the day of the IPO, crying at his desk. Eric confronts him, but instead of firing him, he gives him a pep talk and sends him to the IPO to be with Henry and the Lumi team. In a surprising turn of events, Eric fires Kenny, citing his previous situation with Yasmin. While Kenny is packing up his things at his desk, he accuses Yasmin of cheating on him.

Lumi officially goes public in the final moments of the third season premiere, but at that very moment the power goes out. And not just at the stock exchange. The employees at Pierpoint panic when their lights go out, but we don’t find out what happens next.

So what will happen next? Well, HBO has released a synopsis for tonight’s new episode industrywhich gives a foretaste:

“After a rocky IPO, Eric desperately tries to maintain control of the trading floor. Meanwhile, Harper forges a new working alliance, Robert suffers a devastating loss, and Yasmin’s ingenuity catches Henry’s attention.”

I’m very curious to see what’s going on at Pierpoint now that Lumi has gone public. While Yasmin was nervous about the company after her client pulled out at the last minute, Kenny assured her that they had nothing to worry about after the IPO. Based on the preview of the coming weeks, it looks like Yasmin and Lumi’s CEO are about to get very close. What does he want from her? Poor Robert has even more trauma to deal with now, and because of his relationship with Nicole, he can’t talk to anyone about it. I would recommend a therapist, although I’m not sure that will happen.

Harper will no doubt try to get closer to Petra after their conversation in the season 3 premiere, though I’m not sure how well that will turn out. She’s clearly unhappy about being Anna’s assistant, which is understandable, but she won’t be going back to her old job anytime soon. Or will she?

One big question I have for the new season is what happened to Jesse Bloom. He was such a major character in season two and is nowhere to be seen, not even in the previews. Speaking of which, here’s a little taste of what’s coming next: industry with the teaser for the coming weeks here:

The second season of industry was so great, so I have very high expectations for the third part, which is receiving rave reviews. So far, so good! Tune in for today’s episode of industry on HBO and check back with Show Snob for our continuing coverage!
