Paradise Dragona brings Pokemon fans “out of collecting retirement”

In Stoneham

The hype surrounding the Pokémon Trading Card Game Paradise Dragona is slowly reaching its peak in the Pokémon card community and fans are impatiently counting down the days until the Japanese version hits the market.

While some collectors were baffled by the set theme and box art featuring Stellar Tera-type Alolan Exeggutor, many were excited by the first wave of Paradise Dragona card reveals. Thanks to Pokemon Worlds 2024, more cards were revealed to the community.

Two of the cards that have garnered the most attention in the Pokémon TCG community are Latios Art Rare and Latias ex Special Art Rare. Given the attention they have received online, it is likely that they will become popular Paradise Dragona hunting cards.

Pokemon cards Latios (070/064) and Latias (087/064).

According to PokeBeach’s translations, it’s clear that these cards could be more than just aesthetically pleasing chases – they also seem to have some competitive weight.

Latios has Jet Headbutt, which does a comfortable 110 damage, as well as Skill Dive, which can hit both Benched and Active Pokémon. At 120 HP, it’s not the most resilient Pokémon, but it’s a potentially impactful Pokémon in the early to mid stages of a game.

Latias ex looks deadly in comparison. It has the Eon Blade Attack, which deals 200 damage with the restriction that the Pokemon cannot attack on the next turn. Afterward, the Skyline Ability allows your Basic Pokemon to leave the battle with no retreat cost.

These cards need to be built into carefully constructed decks to reach their full potential, but at first glance they both look powerful. The initial reveal was well-received by the Pokémon Trading Card Game’s online collecting community, with both cards being praised for their beauty.

One enthusiastic fan on X stated, “I love that the cards match, that’s so cool!! Interesting decision to only make Latias a SAR, but still really cool!” Others pointed out the different card types and suggested that it might look odd to see the opposite textures next to each other.

Another Pokémon TCG collector shared his thoughts on the reveals, saying he’s “coming out of collecting retirement with this set.” Others agreed, with one adding, “Yes, I’m back.”

Some fans were already worried about how much the two matching cards might cost, with one concerned collector lamenting, “Oh no, it’s going to cost a fantastic billion dollars.”

Whether you’re more of a collector or a competitive player, Paradise Dragona is a set to keep an eye on. It releases on September 13, the same day as the Stellar Crown expansion set, and it promises to be one of the most interesting sets of the year.
