Moto G8 Power 5G (2024)

This phone makes me uncomfortable in many ways

General solutions to your Android phone problems

In this article, “Moto G Power 5G” refers to the 2024 model.

Before you begin troubleshooting your Moto G Power 5G, follow these steps. While they may seem obvious, something as simple as restarting your phone can fix glitches and errors.

Restart your phone

A quick and easy solution. Try this first.

  1. Hold the Performance And Increase volume Buttons on the phone until the window lifter appears.
  2. Knock Restart.

If the device does not respond, press and hold the Performance Press and hold the button for 30 seconds until the device restarts.

Check for software updates

Motorola only updates the Moto G Power 5G’s software for one year. After updating to Android 15, there’s nothing left except security updates (which end two years later). However, if you’re within that window, a pending software update may fix any issues with your phone.

  1. Open the Settings App.
  2. Scroll down and tap System updates.
  3. Knock Check for updates.
  4. Install any pending updates.
  5. Restart your phone.

Perform a factory reset

A factory reset can fix stubborn software issues and potentially speed up your phone, but you can reset your Moto G Power 5G safely so you don’t lose any valuable data.

  1. Open the Settings App.
  2. Scroll down and tap system.
  3. Knock Reset options.
  4. Knock Delete all data (factory reset).

Follow the steps to reset your phone to factory settings.

A refresh rate of 120 Hz is usually unattainable

A 120Hz refresh rate is a surprising feature on a budget phone like the Moto G Power 5G. The phone’s Dimensity 7020 chipset isn’t powerful enough to sustain such a high frame rate. While it may seem like a waste of the phone’s potential, manually setting the display to a lower refresh rate makes scrolling through menus and watching animations less choppy.

  1. Open the Settings App.
  2. Knock Advertisement.
  3. Knock Show refresh rate.
  4. Choose 60 Hz (recommended).

Minimize, stop or disable bloatware and ads on Moto G Power 5G

The Moto G Power 5G ships with Glance and Swish, software packages that insert advertisements into various parts of your phone, including the lock screen, notification bar, and app drawer. Here’s how to remove both from your phone.

Disable all Glance features

You can’t completely remove Glance without ADB commands, so be sure to disable any optional Glance-related features during setup. However, if you’re still seeing ads on your lock screen and notification bar, here’s how to disable Glance.

  1. Open the Settings App.
  2. Knock Apps.
  3. Knock Show system apps.
  4. Knock Motorola ad.
  5. Knock Deactivate.

Remove apps installed by Swish

Next, disable the pre-installed apps and advertising shortcuts on your phone. Open the app drawer of your Moto G Power 5G and find two folders labeled Shopping And Entertainment. These applications look like folders. Open one and you’ll see shortcuts to pre-installed apps.

You can remove all unwanted apps by tapping and holding the app icon or by clicking the Apps Menu in your Settings App.

Notifications are delayed or never arrive

Slow Moto G Power performance shouldn’t affect when you receive notifications. If notifications from certain apps are delayed, it’s likely due to settings related to the app’s battery usage. Here’s how to check and adjust this setting.

  1. Open the Settings App.
  2. Knock Apps.
  3. Knock Show all apps.
  4. Select the app with delayed notifications.
  5. Knock App battery usage.
  6. Knock Unrestricted.

This can affect your phone’s battery life, especially if the app is using a lot of data in the background. If your phone’s battery life suddenly decreases after changing this setting, change it to Restricted or Optimized.

  • Make sure the sun is pointing at the subject.

Avoid performance degradation after a few weeks of use

The Moto G Power is not a powerful phone, so expect long waits when opening large apps. However, if you notice significant lag when opening the app drawer or scrolling through the home screen, try clearing your phone’s cache as this may improve performance.

  4. Choose an app that you use frequently.
  5. Knock Memory and cache.

The Moto G Power (2024) is Motorola’s latest budget smartphone with a focus on battery. It has a lot going for it, including a large 6.7-inch 120Hz display, a powerful battery, and fast wired and wireless charging. At $300, it has a lot of competition, but that might be enough to convince some buyers to choose it over similar devices from Samsung.
