Watch lawn moss “disappear” with a “super cheap” trick that gardeners love – not vinegar

One of the main reasons for moss growth on lawns is excessive moisture.

Although the presence of moss can sometimes indicate underlying problems in the lawn, it is easy to remove.

If left untreated, moss will eventually die, but will leave unsightly bare patches.

Baking soda is a natural way to kill moss on your lawn, and it’s super inexpensive.

It is safe for garden, plants, soil and water, unlike many commercial moss killers.

Simply mix two to three tablespoons with water in a spray bottle.

Spray the solution on the moss on a warm, dry day, being careful to avoid other plants.

Wait two to three days for the moss to dry and turn golden brown.

Rake or dig out the moss and throw it away to reveal a moss-free lawn.

Baking powder is available in stores like Lidl for just 65 pence per can.

Hayley Warr also recommends using baking soda to kill lawn moss on the Facebook page Gardening Hints and Tips.

The user wrote: “I discovered a super cheap way to kill lawn moss without ruining the garden.

“I wouldn’t normally use baking soda in the garden, but I’ve seen that it’s a natural way to kill things.

“I tried it and just watched all the moss disappear. There are still a few yellow patches left, but it will recover.”

The post received over 30 comments from other users who also suggested this hack as well as white vinegar.

To prevent moss from growing again, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) recommends improving the health of your lawn and adjusting its growing conditions.

They said: “Follow a lawn care program in the spring, summer and fall to increase the vitality of your lawn. Moss is more likely to take hold in a lawn where sparse or weak grass is growing.”
