Poll workers accept applications; Legacy will no longer be a polling place

The Daviess County Elections Office has accepted applications for poll workers for the Nov. 5 general election. County Clerk Leslie McCarty also noted that there will be changes to polling locations this year.

Poll workers must attend training before Election Day and work on November 5, with the option to work on early voting days.

McCarty said they are trying to deploy 200 poll workers, 50% divided by party, to ensure equal representation of the parties.

Poll workers can perform four different tasks: from helping to obtain the correct ballot to ensuring that a ballot is cast correctly.

“Really, everyone there helps each other with their work,” McCarty said.

McCarty said all poll workers would be paid and those working early voting would earn more.

According to McCarty, anyone interested in helping with the election should contact the county clerk’s office or their party’s representative on the election board: the Republican representative is Jane Lambert and the Democratic representative is Lisa Leonard.

The application can also be found here on the district’s election website.

Polling stations

McCarty said Legacy Church, the former Malco Theater, will not serve as a polling place in November because the site is closing. Instead, HIS Church at 4810 Frederica Street will serve as the polling place.

The sample ballot has yet to be released, but all candidates have been released in the order they were elected. Click here to view the election order. Click here to learn more about the candidates for mayor and city commission, as well as their biographies.
