Back to school celebration with free haircuts | WTAQ News Talk | 97.5 FM · 1360 AM

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – All-Starz Youth Day at Joannes Park provided an opportunity for people in the community to come together –

And prepare yourself for school.

Free haircuts, school supplies and giveaways were just the beginning of the festivities.

“We have boxes of shoes, boxes of socks, boxes of underwear, free clothing, all kinds of resources,” said organizer Chris Kimbrough, who also owns Starz Barber & Beauty in Green Bay. “We even have Kimbrough Adult Family Homes now that have been able to hire 16-year-olds as part-time workers, so we have those resources here even for the kids.”

This is only the second year the back-to-school event has been held, but Kimbrough says attendance has more than doubled. Despite the large crowds, they say they have more than enough school supplies for everyone. “We have so much to give away, so much. I promise you, I don’t want to take anything home, I don’t want to take anything to my office, I want to give everything out today, and I would feel really good if it all went away,” he said.

Wanique Harris says it’s a rare opportunity. “People don’t do this kind of thing. The free events, the giveaways. Not many cities do this, but I can say Green Bay really offers something!” she said.

“It’s a huge help to the kids who don’t really have anything, and it’s really nice of them to do that,” Nemyah Brightstar Noyes told us.

Pastor Cedric Hibler of the New Nation Kingdom Assembly tells FOX 11 it’s all for the kids. “I think this is good for Green Bay because it brings people together, especially our youth,” he explained. “Our kids need hope. And I think that’s what we’re really trying to offer today. Give them some time.”

And the children couldn’t be happier.
