About the fate of her character Max in season 5 of Stranger Things:

“They love to let me run. That’s all I can say.”

About the positive response of the audience to Max in Stranger Things:

“I really didn’t think people would be so interested in her journey… But I still thought, ‘That’s cool.'”

About the desire to distance oneself from projects such as Stranger Things in the future:

“I don’t want to play a superhero or a princess. I just want to make sure that everything I do is different from the last time. I’m still young and I’m still learning.”

On the lead role in Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well: The Short Film”:

“At that point, I had never been in love. I had never been through a breakup that intense. This was all new territory for me. I just had to rely on my years of research as a Swiftie… But as time went on, things from my personal life came to light that fueled it even more. Then I thought, ‘Whoa. Maybe I should work on Sadie in those areas.’… It triggers this incredibly nostalgic feeling in me now that I physically feel. It’s too intense.”

About her first singing since childhood on Broadway in the upcoming film O’Dessa:

“There was this moment where I was like, ‘Oh my God. I can’t believe I said yes to this. Damn. What am I doing?!’ … I sang a song and no one else really noticed that I was freaking out inside … Some days were harder than others. But sometimes it was like, ‘I feel completely fearless right now and I’m singing in front of a lot of people!'”

On her transition to acting as a child versus an adult:

“I had put up this wall before. In my everyday life, I suppress most emotions. Strangely, when I act, my anger or sadness can just explode. That’s the moment.”

The play Stranger Things: The First Shadow is officially on its way to Broadway!
