Sytracuses men’s basketball team signs 6’10” French center Petar Majstorovic for NLI

Petar Majstorovic, a 6-foot-1 center from Haguenau, France, has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to enroll and play basketball with the Orange for the 2024-25 season, according to the university.

Majstorovic last played for ASVEL Basket Lyon-Villeurbanne U-21 in the French U-21 ProA league. In 34 games, he averaged 9.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 steals and played 23.6 minutes per game. His shooting percentage was .624 from the field and .679 from the free throw line.

He scored in double figures in 19 of 34 games and had double figures in rebounding in nine games. Majstorovic scored a season-high 22 points against Nancy. His best winter rebounding performance came against Dijon, when Majstrovic grabbed 14 rebounds. He contributed seven double-doubles.

Asvel Basket Lyon-Villeurbanne U-21 achieved a record of 19-15 in 2023/24. The season ran from September 2023 to May 2024.

He began competing in France in 2021-22 while a member of AS Alsace U-21 in the U-21 B League. Majstorovic averaged 9.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 25 games. Majstorovic played a second season with the club and averaged 14.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 steals. Majstorovic scored a career-high 30 points against Saint-Chamond and grabbed a personal best 17 rebounds against Antibes. He saw limited action after his first two seasons with Alliance Sport Alsace in the French League 2.

Majstorovic was born in Sombor in the Serbian province of Vojvodina.

The National Letter of Intent program was created in 1964. Administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA), the program is designed specifically for prospective student-athletes. A signed letter of intent indicates that a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the applicable college or university for one academic year. Institutions agree to provide the student-athlete with financial aid for athletics for one academic year, provided the student-athlete is admitted to the institution and is eligible for financial aid under NCAA rules.
