City hosts celebration of life for Mobile Civic Center on August 21

The City of Mobile will host a “Celebration of Life” on August 21 to recognize the start of demolition of the Mobile Civic Center and to mark the facility’s 60th anniversary.

On July 30, the Mobile City Council approved the demolition of the Civic Center’s arena, theater and expo hall as part of a plan to build a new, state-of-the-art entertainment space on the property and develop the rest of the site for future development.

The City of Mobile will host a demolition start ceremony on Wednesday, August 21st at 10 a.m. Mobile residents are invited to attend. The ceremony will highlight the rich history of the Mobile Civic Center, from legendary concerts to Mardi Gras balls and more. Guests are encouraged to bring their umbrellas and comfortable walking shoes.

As demolition begins and plans for the new arena progress, more information will be available at https://www.cityofmobile.org/mobile-new-arena/ where you will find the most current renderings of the future arena, answers to frequently asked questions, a timeline for the project, and regular updates on key milestones.
