Torrential rain and heavy hail are expected in Cheyenne and Laramie today

Residents in southeast Wyoming could experience strong to severe storms with heavy rain and large hail this afternoon (August 19).

This is according to a statement from the Cheyenne office of the National Weather Service. The agency posted the following on its website:

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the region this afternoon and into the early evening. Most thunderstorms are expected in extreme southeastern Wyoming and the southern Nebraska Panhandle, roughly along and east of I-25 and along and south of US-26. Some thunderstorms could be strong to locally severe, with the possibility of brief torrential rain, large hail and strong winds, as well as frequent lightning.

See the damage from Cheyenne’s severe spring storm

On April 6 and 7, 2024, fierce winds gusting over 90 miles per hour swept through southeast Wyoming, causing havoc in Cheyenne and on the highway. Everything from fences to semi-trucks were knocked over by the storm. Check out the damage caused by local residents below.
