Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would not be surprised if Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs became the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
Belichick revealed his thoughts on the Chiefs’ ability to win another title during an appearance on Monday at Pat McAfee Show.
“I just think this third year of everything going right three years in a row is tough,” Belichick said. “I think if anyone can do it, it’s probably Kansas City. But it’s not going to be easy.”

Andy Reid will get them ready and I think they will score more goals than last year.”

Belichick is familiar with the quest for a third consecutive championship. Before the Chiefs, Belichick’s Patriots were the last team to win two consecutive Super Bowls in 2003 and 2004. New England’s quest for a third consecutive Lombardi Trophy ended in the divisional round of the playoffs, when the team closed the 2005 season with a loss to the Denver Broncos.
After the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl 58, Mahomes referenced Tom Brady’s attitude during the Patriots dynasty when discussing his preparation for the following season.
“I learned from guys like (Tom) Brady, who were the greatest of all time, at the highest level,” Mahomes said. told reporters. “That’s my attitude. I’m going to celebrate with my guys what we accomplished, but then we’re going to work on getting back in this game next year.”
Although Brady and Belichick won six championships together, they never managed to win two consecutive years after 2004. The closest a team came to winning a third consecutive title after winning two Super Bowls was in the conference championship game, a feat accomplished three times by the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers.
Although a three-game winning streak will be difficult, the Chiefs’ 2024 roster still features stars on both sides of the ball like Travis Kelce, Chris Jones and Trent McDuffie. Kansas City also drafted Xavier Worthy after the former Texas star set a new NFL record in the 40-yard dash of 4.21 seconds in March.
The road back to the Super Bowl won’t be easy, but Belichick believes Mahomes and the Chiefs can potentially make history this season.
