Patriots Quarterback Watch: Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye mostly hit the mark

FOXBOROUGH — Each day during training camp, we’ll provide a quick look at the Patriots’ quarterbacks and their progress. With the understanding that the stats need to be put into some context — some reps are defended differently than others, for example — here’s a look at their performance Monday:

Jacoby Brissett: On a day when the pace was noticeably slow for a protective gear practice, the veteran completed 3 of 5 in 11-on-11 drills and 2 of 3 in 7-on-7 drills. Highlights included a great long ball to Tyquan Thornton in an 11-on-11 drill that led to a touchdown – one of the best connections of training camp. He also had an absolute laser shot against DeMario Douglas in 7-on-7 drills.

Drake May: A mostly good session for the freshman, who made his first six shots. He went 5-of-8 in 11-on-11 work and 3-of-3 in 7-on-7 work. Maye’s highlights included two really good connections with KJ Osborn. His low points came during a two-minute drill toward the end of practice when the freshman and the second-team offense couldn’t find their stride.

Joe Milton: The sixth-round pick was used sparingly, shooting 2-of-2 in 11-on-11 games and 2-of-3 in 7-on-7 games. A drop of rookie tight end Jaheim Bell didn’t help.

Bailey Zappe: Another easy day of work for Zappe, who was fourth in the rotation and finished the day with a 1-for-3 performance in his only 11-on-11 session. Javon Baker dropped a ball from Zappe.
