The East Trenton Library Community Center renovation project is nearing completion

The renovation of the East Trenton Library Community Center is nearing completion and opening.

Eleven months after breaking ground on the plant at 701 North Clinton Avenue, workers installed guard rails on the ramps and steps leading to the entrance.

Meanwhile, straw covered a seeded front yard that is expected to germinate before the doors open for business. After nearly a decade of closure, this redevelopment project could bring some rejuvenation to this North Ward community.

The City of Trenton, the New Jersey Historic Trust, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs’ Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program and the NJCC provided funding for the renovation. Trenton-based architect Clarke Caton Hintz worked with contractors Merrell&Garaguso to restore the historic building.

The building was originally constructed around 1796 as the Samuel Dickinson House in the center of a large farm. It became a public library in 1926. The new space will serve as a central hub for modernized library services and educational support, and will provide space for community activities.
