Tim Burton – the director of classics such as Batman, Beetlejuice And Edward Scissorhands— should get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Hollywood star award comes just days before the release of Beetlejuice Beetlejuicethe long-awaited sequel to the director’s 1988 hit Beetlejuice.
Accordingly NBC Los AngelesBurton will be honored at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Sept. 3. The network said the star will be installed at 6600 Hollywood Boulevard in front of Hollywood Toys & Costume.
NBCLA reported that Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder will speak at the Walk of Fame ceremony, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. PT.
Keaton and Ryder both play the lead roles in Burton’s original Beetlejuice and the upcoming sequel. Keaton also starred in Burton’s two Batman Movies And Dumbowhile Ryder in Edward Scissorhands and lent a role in the director’s stop-motion animation version of Frankenweenie.
Original Beetlejuice Star Catherine O’Hara also plays in Beetlejuice Beetlejuicetogether with Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci and Justin Theroux.
Recent winners in Hollywood star categories include Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and film and television star Vince Vaughn.
Burton’s directorial debut was almost four decades ago
Tim Burton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame comes almost 40 years after his feature film directorial debut with Pee-Wee’s Big Adventurestarring the late Paul Reubens.
In addition to directing Beetlejuice and its sequel, Batman and its first sequel and Edward ScissorhandsBurton has directed the following films, among others: Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows, The Island of the Peculiar Children And Dumbo.
In addition to directing the stop-motion animated film Vincent, Burton has also directed the following stop-motion films: Corpse Bride And Frankenweenie. Burton co-directed Corpse Bride with Mike Johnson and was sole director of Frankenweenie, a stop-motion remake of the original live-action short film.
Burton also wrote the story and produced the stop-motion classic Nightmare Before Christmas – The Nightmare Before Christmasdirected by Henry Selick.
Burton’s frequent collaborators over the years include Johnny Depp, whom he directed in eight of his films. Burton’s former partner Helena Bonham Carter, like Depp, appeared in eight of Burton’s films.
Danny Elfman, Burton’s frequent composer, has composed the music for 17 of the director’s films, including Beetlejuice Beetlejuiceand the Burton-produced Nightmare Before Christmas – The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Burton is the focus of an untitled documentary series that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.
In a statement about the documentary, Depp said: “The most important filmmaker who has completely changed my life is Tim. At the very beginning, he was the one who fought for me.”
In addition to his film work, Burton is executive producer and director of the successful Netflix series Wednesdaystarring Jenna Ortega.
Burton’s ceremony on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is scheduled for September 3, while Beetlejuice opens in theaters nationwide on September 6.
