Bernie Sanders: Trump called Kamala Harris an ‘extreme communist’ because of her plan to raise prices, but no matter what he says, nobody believes him

In a recent interview, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) defended Vice President Kamala Harris against the former president Donald Trump’s Accusations about her price gouging proposal. Sanders rejected Trump’s claim that Harris’ plan was tantamount to price controls and called her an “extreme communist.”

What happened: In an interview with Politico on Monday, Sanders said Trump’s claims carry no weight in the public eye. Despite President Joe Biden’s difficulties in the campaign, Sanders remains a staunch supporter and praises him as the “most progressive president” since Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Sanders said he would support Harris now that she is the nominee, describing her as a “very strong candidate” who has great energy among young voters. Sanders’ comments come amid a turbulent political landscape in which the Democratic Party is trying to consolidate its position ahead of the upcoming election.

Why it is important: Harris has been in the spotlight for her proposal to ban corporate price gouging in the grocery and food retail sectors, a move unprecedented in federal politics. The proposal is part of a broader economic policy program that Harris is expected to unveil at a campaign rally in North Carolina.

With the upcoming presidential election campaign, Harris and Trump’s economic strategies are being put to the test. Trump’s aggressive tariff proposals and Harris’ promise to take action against corporate “price gouging” are causing controversy among economists and Wall Street magnates.

Sanders has since been outspoken about his views on the upcoming election, stressing the need for better healthcare, expanded Social Security and a higher minimum wage, and criticizing Trump for wanting to give billionaires another tax break.

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) began Monday evening in Chicago, with Harris leading Trump in many exit polls.
