Pantene hosts the 2nd Hair Science Summit

Rrevealing microscopic hair care for the first time and also announced experts from Pantene Hair Science Institute

SHANGHAI, 20 August 2024 /PRNewswire/ — On 19 August 2024Pantene held its 2and Hair Science Summit at the historic Aurora Museum in Shanghaiafter its opening in 2023. This year’s summit marked another milestone for Pantene in exploring the science of hair care and seeking breakthroughs. At this year’s summit, Pantene shared the latest research on repairing damaged hair and also demonstrated a high-resolution microscopic bio-imaging technology that was an industry breakthrough and could create high-resolution images of the internal structure of a hair. This confirmed for the first time that the provitamin B5 (Pro-V B5) and lipidol ingredients contained in Pantene products can penetrate to the core of damaged hair to repair it. Pantene also announced the experts of the Pantene Hair Science Institute at the event. The institute aims to bring together researchers from around the world for a new era of hair care.

A new era of scientifically based Hair care

Pantene is the world’s most popular hair care brand and the first brand to discover the role of Pro-V B5 in protecting and repairing hair. It is also the only hair care brand certified by the Swiss Vitamin Institute (SVI). Pantene has been working on hair care for 82 years. With a DNA in research, Pantene strives to apply the latest research in its products. The brand discovers problems from the consumer’s perspective and uses scientific tools to solve them. In this way, it responds to consumer trust. Luan LanGeneral Manager of the Pantene brand in Chinasaid: “We believe that every scientific breakthrough represents the fulfillment of our commitment to consumers’ healthy and beautiful hair. At Pantene, we will always be by consumers’ side, using the power of science to help them achieve beautiful hair.”

Last year, Dr. Jennifer MarshGlobal Chief Research Scientist at Pantene, presented her studies on the mechanism and effect of small molecules in protecting and repairing the hair core at the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) 2023 Meeting. This year, her research team further uncovered the mechanism of synergistic hair damage in the hair core. Dr. Lai Weia dermatologist and hair expert from the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, also provided a detailed interpretation of this discovery at the summit. He emphasized: “Hair damage is visible to the naked eye, but the root cause is the damage at the core, which is difficult to detect but very important. Pantene scientists’ in-depth study of hair damage at the core can help us develop better hair care solutions that combine both external and internal hair care. We should choose small molecular ingredients that can really penetrate the core of the hair to repair it.”

Hair repair enabled by science at its core

Deeper research into the core of hair damage and the repair of damaged hair cores has become a new research area for P&G Haircare in recent years. At the summit Wang Yua senior analytical scientist at Pantene, reported on the application of bio-imaging in hair care and Pantene’s latest research on using this technology to detect ingredients. Using this technology, her team discovered for the first time that Pro-V B5 can penetrate the hair core and restore its structure to repair damaged hair. The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore has been collaborating with P&G Haircare for ten years. As a microscopy expert, Dr. Ma Xiaoxiao, senior scientist and manager of the A*STAR Microscopy Platform, reported on the joint research results of the two parties. She said, “The high-resolution bio-imaging technology enables us to detect and examine the ingredients for repairing the hair core more efficiently and intuitively. Through collaboration with Pantene’s research team, we found that Pantene’s hair care formulas can replenish the lipids lost in the hair core. With this technology, we can see the effect of these hair care ingredients at the core. In the future, we will explore the possibility of discovering additional hair care ingredients together with the aim of offering consumers more targeted and diverse hair care solutions.”

Pro-V B5 and Lipidol are two main ingredients in Pantene hair care products. Using the Pantene Intensive Shot Hair Mask as an example, Pantene Chief Scientist explains Zhang Chao reported how the brand’s research team has worked on multiple fronts, including formulation, experimentation and proof, to develop effective hair care products. In the last five years since its launch, Pantene Intensive Shot Hair Mask has been revised three times. The effectiveness of this product for hair care has been confirmed by continuous consumer research and practical testing in multiple dimensions. The latest generation contains Pro-V B5 and Lipidol beads that can quickly penetrate the hair core and help restore the broken bonds to repair the damaged hair at the core and keep it bouncy, resilient and shiny.

The experts at Pantene Hair Science Institute announced

Topping the agenda for this year’s summit were the experts from the Pantene Hair Science Institute. These experts come from many different fields, including basic medicine, hair care, bio-imaging and vitamin research. Pantene hopes to collaborate with leading scientists while listening to industry experts to further explore hair care using cutting-edge technologies. This helps integrate research resources and push the boundaries of hair care. Representatives of the Institute’s experts were present at the summit. With their rigorous approach to research and deep insights into hair care, they will join Pantene in opening a new chapter in hair care research.

This year’s summit demonstrated Pantene’s determination to advance hair care through scientific research. The remarkable research findings presented at the summit resulted from the brand’s relentless pursuit of healthy and beautiful hair. They also demonstrated the brand’s commitment to consumers. In the future, they will help pave the way for every single consumer in hair care, keeping their hair beautiful and giving them more confidence.
