Wayne Doctor’s arrest for drug offenses in hospital parking lot under investigation

WAYNE, NJ – St. Joseph’s Health is investigating the arrest of a local cancer doctor who was arrested during a drug raid in Wayne.

Police confirmed that Dr. Stephan Dorkhom, a resident of Franklin Lakes, was arrested on drug charges in the parking lot of St. Joseph’s Wayne as part of an investigation on July 22.

On Thursday, a representative for St. Joseph’s Health said Dorkom, an oncologist with practices in Wayne and Paterson, “is not currently seeing patients.”

Dorkhom was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, officials said.

In New Jersey, drugs classified as controlled dangerous substances (CDS) are classified into one of five categories or “lists” based on their medical use (if any) and potential for abuse. Police have not clarified exactly which drug Dorkhom is alleged to have possessed.

A concerned resident first told Patch about the allegations against Dorkhom, the former chief medical officer at St. Joseph.

“We were disturbed to learn of the allegations made against one of our valued medical staff,” the health system said in a statement. “St. Joseph’s Health is cooperating fully with local authorities and cannot comment on ongoing investigations. As always, the well-being of our patients is our top priority.”
