Dixon’s Venetian Night, Whiteside County Fair in Sauk Valley – Shaw Local

1. Dixon Municipal Band: The Late Nite Blues Brothers will perform with the Dixon Municipal Band at the final Summer Sounds 2024 concert on Thursday, August 8th at 7:30 p.m. at the Page Park Band Shell in Dixon. They will perform “We’re On A Mission From God,” “Sweet Home Chicago” and “New Orleans.” The concert will include “Fanfare For The Common Man,” “Emperata Overture,” “West Side Story” excerpts, “Florentine March,” “Eagle Bend” and “Star Wars-The Marches.” There will be prizes for audience members and GG’s Ice Cream will pick up the treats while Christine’s Kitchen will sell baked goods.

2. Venetian Night: Experience a taste of Europe during Venetian Night at the Riverfront on Saturday, August 10, in Dixon. The European-themed event begins at 5 p.m. and features street performers, a walking magician, face painting, a rock hunt, games and more. Jeff Semmerling of Art Side Out Studio & Mask Shop will also be on hand to show the “Magic of Masks.” There will also be live stage performances by magician Rob Thompson, as well as interactive mimes and living statues and other artists from Matthew McMunn Entertainment. Kids of all ages can also participate in a spaghetti eating contest and a pool noodle boat race. The evening will end at 9 p.m. with a fireworks display best viewed from the riverfront.

3. Whiteside County Fair: The Whiteside County Fair is August 13-17 in Morrison. Next Level Pro-Bull Riding begins on Tuesday, August 13 at 7 p.m. Next Level Pro-Bronc Riding is the main show at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14. At 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, there will be Full Throttle Monster Trucks in the grandstand featuring the world famous Bigfoot, followed by fireworks. The Illini State Pullers Association is bringing their tractors and trucks for Tractor Pulling on Friday, August 16. Tractor Pulling begins at 6:30 p.m., following the Vintage Tractor Parade at 5:30 p.m. The Demolition Derby is on Saturday, August 17 at 6:30 p.m. For more information about the fair, visit whitesidecountyfair.org.

4.: Amboy Depot Days: Depot Days is August 22-25 in Amboy. Don’t forget to buy your tickets for Amboy’s 50/50 raffle, the drawing is Sunday, August 25. Prizes have exceeded $100,000 almost every year since 2014. Tickets are available for $1 each or 6 for $5. For festival information, visit https://depotdays.com.

5th: East Jordan Church Farm Heritage Festival: The 17th annual Heritage Festival will be held Saturday, Aug. 24. The day will begin with a breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, pancakes and biscuits with gravy from 7 to 9 a.m. Tickets for the breakfast are $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 5 to 13. Children under 5 receive a free breakfast. Farm machinery, tractors, trucks and lawn mowers will be on display throughout the day. A blacksmith will demonstrate tool making. There will be a bounce house for children and a zoo with farm animals. Fishing lessons for youth and tractor and hayrides will be offered. A food stand will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and there will be a bake sale during the day. The church is located at 22027 Polo Road, Sterling. Admission and parking are free.
