New Jersey man receives reimbursement for repair costs on newly purchased car thanks to 7 On Your Side

NEW JERSEY (WABC) — Imagine you buy a car, go back to it the next day and find that your new vehicle is broken.

The car needs to be towed and the car dealer wants to charge a fee for the repairs.

That’s exactly what happened to a man from New Jersey.

Kyrstyan Mazzuca lives in Asbury Park but works 60 miles away in Brooklyn.

Commuting on public transportation was a pain for him, so he decided to save up and buy a car.

“I spent six hours at the dealership, test driving different cars and looking at different options. Finally, I found one that didn’t seem to have any problems. There didn’t seem to be anything really bad wrong with it,” Mazzuca said.

He bought an inexpensive, efficient 2011 Hyundai Sonata that he thought was in immaculate condition.

But the very next day, “all the windows of the car were rolled down. Everything was locked. You couldn’t open the doors. You couldn’t open anything at all,” he said.

He called AAA, but the car wouldn’t start there either. Mazzuca had the car towed to a cousin’s house in Hazlet, New Jersey, for $780.

Mazzuca says that after 53 phone calls and over a dozen texts and emails, the car dealer finally responded but said it would cost $500 to repair his car.

What made the situation even more complicated was that Mazzuca still owed the second half of his down payment, another $1,200.

“I just want my money back. We can go our separate ways. We don’t have to keep doing business. We don’t have to go out and slander each other. That’s not the way I like to do things,” he said.

“A friend told me to call Nina,” Mazzuca said. “She will make sure everything is sorted out.”

7 On Your Side contacted the dealer in Brick, New Jersey, who told us the entire car’s main fuse had blown. Within a week, the customer got his car back and more.

“He basically replaced the fuse, a sensor and a generator. The battery cost me nothing. He also took another $1,000 off the total price of the car just to make sure there were no evil spirits and everyone went home reasonably satisfied,” Mazzuca said.

The dealer even paid for the tow from his cousin’s house to the dealership.

“Thank you, 7 On Your Side!” said Mazzuca.
