Employee found dead at Wayne Township Elementary School

A janitor was found dead in the stairwell of a Wayne Township elementary school on Wednesday, shortly before students arrived.

According to police reports, officers responded to a report of a suicide at Maplewood Elementary School, 1643 Dunlap Ave., at approximately 7 a.m., 30 minutes before the first school bell rang.

Wayne Township Metropolitan School District officials said the employee was found in an area “not easily accessible to students,” but did not elaborate.

Classes took place as usual.

IndyStar has reached out to the Marion County coroner’s office for the employee’s cause of death, which has not been publicly released at the time of publication. The news outlet is not naming the man, who was reported missing from the city’s west side on Feb. 13, according to online police records.

How the person was found, how long he or she was on campus and other details about the case were not disclosed.
