One of America’s cheapest cars is no longer available: Mitsubishi Mirage | Auto News

Mitsubishi has discontinued the Mirage, meaning cheap cars are now facing extinction in the United States.

The Mitsubishi Mirage is officially dead for 2025

The Mitsubishi Mirage was running on borrowed time. We knew it wasn’t very relevant in the American market and would be discontinued soon, but we weren’t sure when. The Mirage was one of the cheapest cars in the US market. With a starting price of $16,695 (around Rs 14.01 lakh) for the base model, the Mirage was only the second cheapest car in the US, the Nissan Versa. Mitsubishi has now discontinued the Mirage and there will be no updated model.

The Mirage was quite old, didn’t have many features, and couldn’t compete at all in terms of performance by US standards. It had a puny little 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that only produced 78bhp. That was just about enough. Transmissions were either a 5-speed manual or a CVT. We can’t write much about the Mirage because it didn’t have much to begin with, but we liked its presence in the US market. Aside from the hatchback, a sedan version was also offered. There was even a Rally trim available for the Mirage, which had the same puny little 1.2-litre engine, but a graphics package, some fender flares, and old rally-style mud flaps.

The Mirage won’t be missed, but it certainly won’t be forgotten either. Mitsubishi will stop producing the car later this year, so dealers should have no problem keeping stocks high until next summer.
