Gold-worthy braids

US soccer player Trinity Rodman was praised for her pink cornrows and footwork at the Paris Games this summer. On the tennis court, she rivaled Coco Gauff with her braided bundles. Easier for beginners: Zendaya showed off a classic braid worn straight and high while promoting challenger in their athletic era. With the increasing number of haircare brands sponsoring female athletes lately (see: K18 at the Olympics and Mielle’s partnership with the WNBA), we expect game-ready, statement braids to continue their dominance in the upcoming season.

50s core

Hailey Bieber’s pregnancy style is unmatched, which is why her recent photoshoot, in which she wore a buttercup yellow headscarf à la Audrey Hepburn, caused a stir online when people googled chiffon headscarves. Of course, any wide headband or edgy style will achieve the elegant effect, as seen on Conner Ives’ runway and as Emma Chamberlain wore recently (bonus points for her cardigan combos). Or you could use a curler to mimic the perky bob Gigi Hadid wore to her wedding. Deadpool vs Wolverine Premiere to really get the Cadillac vibes going.

Power buns

When Blake Lively launched her new hair care line Blake Brown in late July, it was a photo from behind of her wearing a luscious chignon. Since then, we’ve noticed CEO-style buns everywhere, from Céline Dion’s sleek hair at the Olympics opening ceremony to Zendaya’s loose curls at Wimbledon to Scarlett Johansson’s mega-tight hairstyle while promoting Fly with me to the moon. Whether straight or fluffy, combat frizz by applying a nourishing finishing lotion to the ends before twisting and pinning.

No. Between the chokehold that Bridgerton With Season 3 and Chanel’s haute couture show in Paris just around the corner, we’ll certainly still be wearing headbands with our Sorels in the new year. Not ready to spend $700 on a Chanel-quality bow hair clip? Don’t worry, Kitsch has just the thing for you—and the fabric is even recycled.

Are these hair extensions or are they not?

Given the tremendous shine and even texture of the latest ultra-long hair looks, you may be wondering, “Are they or aren’t they?” Realthat is. It’s 2024 and hair extensions have never looked better, in part because faux strands are finally being “seen” in mainstream hair care. For Rihanna’s Fenty Hair debut, a shampoo’s description goes beyond the usual “safe for all hair types” and reads, “This shampoo is safe to use on 100% human hair extensions.”

Make your own espresso

It was the song of the summer, and now “Espresso” is the sound of hair colorists’ cash registers ringing. Kaia Gerber and Lily Collins recently switched to coffee colors, while Dakota Johnson’s rich hue is still trending on TikTok as “Old Money Brunette.” The irony of this monochromatic hair color, of course, is that it’s much more affordable than the high-maintenance highlights and cowboy copper of seasons past. We’ll raise a cup to that.

Transparent bangs

Curtain bangs may not be going away anytime soon, but there’s a new peek-a-boo pony in town. While there’s no clever name for it yet, this piecey pony lacks the layers of the aforementioned curtain bangs and instead lies straight. The bulk is then cut out into what can only be described as one part Audrey Hepburn, one part ’90s wild hair. (Psst! A smart hairdryer that lowers the temperature as it gets closer to your scalp will prevent your forehead from getting singed while blow-drying.)
