MASSENA – And then there were four, and they included Alcoa’s Massena Operations in the Coolest Things Made in New York contest.
“The 4th round of voting in our Coolest Thing Made in New York contest is now open!🏆 The public has spoken and now we’re down to 4 amazing products made right here in New York State!” said representatives from the Business Council of New York State, which sponsors the contest.
In the last of five rounds leading up to the finale, Alcoa’s aluminum will face off against General Motors’ Corvette engine, with NightRide Thermal Inc. and The Raymond Corporation also battling for the final two spots.
The Massena-based company, which employs around 480 people, competed against the Cabot Creamery Cooperative from Chateaugay in the third round of the competition, which originally began with 45 participants.

Reaching the semifinals of the Coolest Thing Made in NY competition is a great honor for the entire Alcoa Massena team, especially given our status as the world’s oldest continuously operating aluminum smelter,” said Ingolfur Helgason, Massena plant manager. “This recognition not only underscores the dedication of our employees, but also motivates us to continue striving for a more sustainable future.”
The weekly winners of the head-to-head, knockout competition are determined by a public vote on the contest website, giving New Yorkers a direct say in choosing the coolest product in the state.
Voting for the fourth round runs until Sunday at http://wdt.me/PmmSfC. One vote per device is permitted per day.
After Sunday, the field will be narrowed down to the final two entrants, who will be invited to the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing to pitch their products to more than 250 attendees at the Business Council’s annual meeting. Voting will be open until a winner is announced at an awards dinner on the evening of Sept. 19. The winning company will also be a stop on this year’s Made in New York Manufacturing Bus Tour, a week-long bus tour of various manufacturing companies in New York.
The statewide initiative highlights the innovation, creativity and manufacturing excellence of companies across the state. The competition provides manufacturers with a platform to showcase their products and highlight their important role in driving New York’s economy.
