These are all road repairs planned in Michigan through 2029

The 1920s were America’s “Roaring Twenties.” The 2020s will likely be remembered as the “Detour Twenties” in Michigan. Since much of the decade was under the administration of governor Gretchen Whitmer, who famously campaigned on the slogan “Fix the damn roads,” it should come as no surprise that there are more major road construction plans for the second half of the 2020 decade.

The Michigan Department of Transportation laid out the goals. They were discovered and shared on the Michigan forum on Reddit.

Entitled the Five-Year Transport Programme, it is a draft of the priority work the state plans to undertake on major roads and highways.

For the remaining years of the decade, the state plans to spend $15.3 billion to purchase about 100 new bridges and 865 kilometers of roads each year.

The plan also includes the introduction of infrastructure for electric vehicles and non-road transport modes such as rail, public transport and ports.

The state is seeking comments on all aspects of the five-year transportation plan, and the deadline is September 3, 2024.

Each planned project is marked with a dot on a map. Clicking on the dot will reveal the details of that plan and a link to submit comments.

Comments are also accepted via a general form as well as by email and post.
