Around 125 participants took part in Team Placid Planet’s West-Woodward Memorial Time Trial on Sunday – the 2024 New York State Time Trial Championships.

Racers were greeted by sunny skies, but faced a strong headwind on the outbound leg. The event, held on State Route 9N between Jay and Keene, featured categories for cyclists in the paracyclist, recumbent and tandem categories, open to those ages 9 and older.

The top local finishers were Bill McGreevy of Wilmington of Team Placid Planet and Rich Karaz of Lake Placid with silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s 60-64 category.

Other top finishers in the region included Douglas Chase of Plattsburgh with silver in the men’s 70-74 division; Sabine Amoriell of Peru won bronze in the women’s 55-59 division; Mary Duprey of Plattsburgh took gold in the women’s 60 division; Tara Freeman of Elizabethtown took second in the novice category; Chris Grant of High Peaks Cyclery won gold in the men’s open paracycling; Devann Murphy of Keeseville won gold in the women’s open paracycling; Kris Fisher of Saranac Lake took home silver in the men’s 4 division, Nick Gouwens of Jay took bronze in the men’s 35-39 division and Ed Armstrong of Plattsburgh took third in the men’s 50-54 division.
