Balearic Blonde is the sunny, flattering hair tone for late summer 2024

Summer may be coming to an end, but there’s one hair color that’ll extend the warm, hazy days a little longer. Balearic blonde is on trend and features salty strands that have been soaked in the Mediterranean and then dried in the sun.

What is Balearic Blonde?

Inspired by the golden beaches, warm climate and relaxed vibe of the Balearic Islands, ‘Balearic Blonde’ is “a sun-kissed blonde that embodies the natural, effortless beauty associated with basking in the sun of Ibiza or Mallorca,” explains Jason Collier, Key Opinion Leader at Jerome Russell Bblonde.

Specifically, the blonde hair color is designed to mimic the way blonde hair brightens in sunlight. “The hair color is meant to look natural, as if it’s the result of long days outdoors by the sea, rather than a look created in the salon,” notes Jason. “It’s the kind of blonde that suggests a carefree, sun-drenched lifestyle, with a color that’s both vibrant and subtle,” he adds.

Why choose Balearic blonde?

Now that we’re nearing the end of summer, this shade can make the sun shine with us. But the light, golden, natural hue can also carry beautifully into fall (like a suntan looks with a cozy knit). It’s reminiscent of sun-kissed days, but the warm tones are a nod to the trendy hair colors that are popular in fall (see: sunflower blonde).

If you are not a natural blonde, you will need to bleach the shade a bit, but because it is also mixed with natural tones, it is healthier for the hair than light platinum and with a careful application of color, it can also grow out quite smoothly without leaving a harsh flood line.

How to wear Balearic blonde?

The key is to mix lighter tones with a deeper natural base. “The overall base is a soft, natural blonde or brunette,” says Jason. The overall feel “is not a platinum or ash blonde, but more of a warm, golden blonde that feels natural and not overly processed. The hair should have warm undertones with hints of gold and honey, reflecting the warm climate of the Balearic Islands. This warmth gives the hair a radiant, healthy shine, as if it were reflecting the sun’s rays,” he adds.
