Black hair is the root of our beauty—and the Bronner Bros. hair show is the fantastical world to experiment in. For over 70 years, we’ve seen some of the greatest Black hair stylists of all time (think of the work of hair show veteran Kim Kimble, who landed in the 1997 film). BAPS), make Bronner Bros. one of the most spectacular cultural moments in beauty.

In 2009 we saw Good hair Actress Nia Long was a judge on Hair Wars. And in 2014, stylists transformed hair into geometric church hats. In 2019, wigs turned into carnival masks. Now, this weekend, the hair show returned to the same venue as the 30th Essence Festival of Culture, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, and once again tested the metamorphosis of textured hair.

“We are proud to showcase an exceptional group of educators, each bringing their unique expertise and flair to the stage,” said Stephanie Bronner, education director of the Bronner Bros. Show, in a press release. “This year we are focusing on the cross-section of innovation and culture reflected in our carefully curated roster of educators, influencers and exhibitors.”

Themed “The Cadence of Culture,” the three-day event featured entertainment from the Glamour Quest Showdown competition to the Vivace Bold Color Challenge, Afrobeats styling battles and even an all-white brunch sponsored by Beyoncé’s haircare brand Cécred.

Hairstylists from all over the world – kitchen cosmetologists, seasoned pros and cosmetology students alike – are contributing to the culture of our hair and creating hairstyles never seen before. From blonde braided dream catchers to the illusion of burning hair to a memorial to Madame CJ Walker, we saw the industry’s most talented hairstylists – like Clif Vmir, Kee Taylor, Derek J and David Torrey – show off their latest amazing creations.

In addition to the display of talent and magic, attendees also awaited booths from beauty brands such as The Hair Diagram, KISS and Andis. And as Bronner says, “Each of the selected companies represents the technology and innovation that today’s beauty professionals are looking for to stay on trend in the industry.”
