John Wayne Horton joins Lowenstein Sandler’s Palo Alto office as a partner in the Emerging Companies & Venture Capital (ECVC) practice

Lowenstein Sandler announces that John Wayne Horton has joined the firm as a partner in the Emerging Companies & Venture Capital (ECVC) group. Horton was previously a partner in the Silicon Valley office of Goodwin Procter, where he was previously a partner. Horton is based in Lowenstein Sandler’s Palo Alto office and is the second partner to join Lowenstein’s ECVC group in a matter of months.

Horton, who has been based in the San Francisco Bay Area since graduating from Stanford 25 years ago, serves as outside general counsel representing startups and growth companies, with a focus on venture capital financings, growth/private equity deals, merger and acquisition transactions, and private tender offers. He also represents the venture capital, growth and private equity funds that finance and acquire these companies.

Anthony W. Raymundo, managing partner of Lowenstein’s Palo Alto office, said, “The addition of John Horton to Palo Alto strengthens our powerful ECVC group, demonstrates our continued commitment to entrepreneurs and venture funds in the San Francisco Bay Area, and reinforces Lowenstein’s reputation as a dynamic force in the startup ecosystem.”

Horton says, “I’m excited to join a team that was founded in the 1990s and has several partners who have each been working on venture deals for more than 25 years. Similar to our Silicon Valley clients, I find the youthfulness of Lowenstein’s Palo Alto-based ECVC team appealing and relatable, as I was a law school classmate with my new Lowenstein partner Chandra Shih, who joined the firm after we graduated, and have worked with the team on numerous deals, including with mutual clients. I’m also excited to leverage Lowenstein’s impressive VentureCrush platform, which connects entrepreneurs and investors as the firm and its friends deepen their understanding of the market.”

“Our ECVC team has numerous shared relationships with John, including large mutual clients in the venture capital space. These sophisticated shared clients and relationships enabled us to move quickly because we knew that John’s expertise in venture financing, M&A and as a trusted board advisor, along with the relationships John built during his 25 years in Silicon Valley, would strengthen our emerging companies and venture capital capabilities, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area,” said Ed Zimmerman, partner, chairman and co-founder of the firm’s ECVC group.

Horton, the newest partner in Lowenstein Sandler’s ECVC group, joins Lowenstein less than two months after Abe Kwon joined the firm’s ECVC group in New York. Like Horton, Kwon was a partner at Goodwin before joining Lowenstein’s ECVC team. Horton received his JD with honors from Santa Clara University School of Law and his BAS from Stanford University.
