Bigger and Better Sunset Cliffs Classic Car Show on September 7

Bigger and better. That’s what the free, second annual Sunset Cliffs Classic Car Show promises to be, taking place on Point Loma Avenue on Saturday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to founder Gavin Fleming of Ocean Beach, this year’s auto show will be significantly larger and will feature more vehicles than the first event in 2023.

“We put on the show to help the community,” said car enthusiast Fleming about the purpose of the event. He implored car fans to “come out and help us raise funds and awareness for Sunset Cliffs. This is the only event that takes place right there.”

You don’t have to own a nice car to attend the car show. “They all come to us,” Fleming emphasized.

Organizing, planning and promoting a classic car show is a lot of work, but Fleming says it’s worth it. “Every time we get an entry, we get really excited,” he admitted, adding that he wants to take the show to the next level this year. “We’re going to take over Point Loma Avenue, the whole street, not just the parking lots.”

Fleming expects to have 80 to 100 vehicles on display, up from last year’s launch display of about 50 vehicles. “We have everything from 1910 vehicles to a 2024 Dodge Charger, as well as trucks, motorcycles and cars of all kinds,” Fleming noted. “We’ve added more cars this year and a kids’ zone with Hot Wheels racing, and we’ll also have food trucks, some merchandise vendors and live music.”

Fleming added: “Name the vehicle – we’ll probably have it there.”

The vehicles exhibited at the show on September 7th will also be judged by category.

Fleming expects up to 2,000 car enthusiasts to attend the event this year. There will also be a tombola and a raffle for some great items.

The first Sunset Cliffs Car Show And The Grillmaster Contest was held on September 9, 2023, at the corner of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and Point Loma Boulevard in the church parking lot, as well as in the Trinidad Motor parking lot and the parking lot of the Inn at Sunset Cliffs, 1370 Sunset Cliffs Blvd.

The plan is to place beautiful, special cars in parking lots in the Point Loma area to attract attention, help local businesses, and get people to stop by and look at them, explains Fleming, the hotel manager at the Inn at Sunset Cliffs.
