SWIPCO receives housing rehabilitation grant from Iowa West Foundation

The Southwest Iowa Housing Trust Fund, a nonprofit organization administered by the Southwest Iowa Planning Council, recently received a $125,000 grant from the Iowa West Foundation for housing repairs.

According to a press release, SWIPCO was able to use the money, along with other grants, to make extensive repairs to homes throughout the region. Projects completed last year included renovating a bathroom and repairing plumbing, installing a new air conditioning system and repairing the foundation.

16 projects were completed in 2023 using Iowa West funds, and SWIPCO has completed or is in the process of completing 44 home repair projects using 2023 funds. These repairs are being made for income-eligible recipients and can address both long-term and urgent needs.

“Iowa West Foundation grants make an immediate difference,” said Erin Hudson, SWIPCO’s director of community development, in the press release. “They are owner-driven, so SWIPCO puts the homeowner’s needs first. We work with the homeowner and contractors to make sure everything works to everyone’s satisfaction. Iowa West Foundation funds help SWIPCO make home repairs that we might not otherwise be able to do.”
