Forbes Center welcomes the public to a free open house on August 31

The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts is pleased to invite the Shenandoah Valley community to a special open house on Saturday, August 31st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free, all-ages event celebrates the Forbes Center’s 15th anniversary season and features children’s activities, workshops, performances and more.

Guests have the unique opportunity to explore the inner workings of the Forbes Center through a variety of exciting activities. Highlights include backstage tours every 15 minutes, educational workshops and captivating mini-performances in all of the Center’s venues. Whether you’re an art lover or just curious about the magic that happens behind the scenes, there’s something for everyone.

Guests can take part in an interactive dance workshop, experience mini-theatre and musical performances and learn about the complex design and construction of Steinway pianos. Other experiences include sound design sessions, stage combat demonstrations, a behind-the-scenes look at the Marching Royal Dukes and an insight into costume development from concept to stage. Families can enjoy a variety of activities for children including making theatre masks, face painting and theatre games.

The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts at James Madison University is the Shenandoah Valley’s premier performing arts center offering world-class theater, dance and music entertainment. Audiences of all ages are invited to enjoy exceptional performances by internationally recognized artists, renowned JMU faculty members and emerging talent from JMU’s School of Music and School of Theater and Dance. Located directly across from Wilson Hall on the west side of South Main Street in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the Forbes Center completes the historic “Quad” on the JMU campus.
